Is your electrical panel a fire risk?

If your panel is labeled "Zinsco" or "Federal Pacific" you may have a fire risk.  These are older panels that will not pass today's Underwriters Laboratories (UL) listing and would not be sold to the public today. To identify a Zinsco panel look for any panel labels that say:  Zinsco, Sylvania, Sylvania-Zinsco or GTE-Sylvania-Zinsco

Manufacturers or distributors of Zinsco style circuit breakers include: Challenger Electric, Connecticut Electric aka (UBI), GTE Electric, Kearney Electric, Millbank Electric and Thoms & Betts Electric.

Federal Pacific electrical panels are also a fire and electrical shock risk.  You can identify these panels with a label of "Federal Pacific" or "Stab-Loc" printed on the circuits breakers.

Zinsco and Federal Pacific circuit breakers and distribution panels have an outdated and defective design that include alumunium components and bus bars that are prone to over-current and arcing.  This can result in improper operation of the panel and breakers not tripping thus causing a fire and safety hazard. 

Federal Pacific and Zinsco electrical panels were recalled in a class action lawsuit in 2002.  Both brands were very popular in homes and installed from the 1950's to 1980's.

If your home was built prior to 1990 it would be advisable to have us inspect your electrical panel and system to assure safety and proper operation.
